Deli History

It all began in the 1800's, when George Stein opened a bar in Jamaica Queens and his wife ran their confectionary store on Fulton Ave.  Their son George delivered hot dogs and candy by horse and buggy to Long Island.  His son Arthur Stein Sr. opened his first deli in Glen Cove in 1950.  And his son's Wayne and Arthur Stein Jr. opened their first deli in Hicksville in 1967. Wayne went on to open The North Port Village Gourmet Deli and Arthur opened The Cold Spring Harbour Deli. Arthur now currently owns and operates The Country Plaza Delicatessen in Locust Valley and has for the past 35 years.  So keeping with family tradition, Melinda opened The Calabash Deli in 1997.  Bringing with her, five generations of experience in the service industry and a love for food.
